PYTHON
By Lance Bemo

Ok I admit that I love low budget monster movies, I get seduced by a great cover and disappointed by a terrible movie. This homage to low budget films started thirteen years ago when I rented PUMPKINHEAD, one of the best low budget films in horror history. Unfortunately PYTHON isn't one of those films, ok where to begin.

This movie was touted as this years ANACONDA, but it wasn't close to being as good as ANACONDA for one simple reason.... JENNIFER LOPEZ! enough said. The story is simply that a 129 ft. Python escapes from it's creators and wreaks havoc on a small town. It never ceases to amaze me how the military and scientists think that they can mess with nature and expect to control it. There is a side story involving a conflict between the hero, local town girl, and the Deputy Sheriff (William Zabka : The Karate Kid) that apparently happen before the movie started and cleared up in five minutes. Basically just waste enough time in the script, so the audience can see the Python eat people. First time Director Richard Clabaugh tries to incorporate some humor into the film and it plays like a sixth grade school play. I am sorry but seeing a body burned in acid doesn't make me fall over laughing and I guess one of the deputy sheriff's are suppose to be the comic relief, but comes across more as a moron then anything else. The only postive thing that I can say is the Python special effects were pretty good. I read in some magazine that the movie cost about thirteen million dollars to make, so I guess $12,990,000 went into the FX and the rest to cast, crew, and script.

There are some familiar Sci-fi/ Horror veterans that make up the cast: John Franklin ( Children of the Corn), Wil Wheaton( Star Trek:The Next Generation), Sean Whalen( People under the stairs), Casper Van Dien( Starship Troopers), Jenny McCarthy( Scream 3), and Robert Englund( NightMare on Elm Street Series). But not even all of this genre talent could help this movie, I mean Jenny McCarthy is in this movie for a blink of the eye fully clothed! I could have tolerated this film if Jenny had been in a tank top or bikini. But tomorrow is another day and I thought I saw a movie at Blockbuster the other day called KOMODO and it had a great looking cover.
